Dear Skyy ZNO,

I want to thank you and congratulate you on your new album “ExitUs”.

“ExitUs” is more than an album. It’s a living map of the African musical odyssey: from the continent, through the rupture of deportation, across the Caribbean, and into the Americas. It traces the pain, yes, but more powerfully, it traces the resilience.

In the face of enslavement, brutality, and a system designed to erase humanity, our ancestors turned to music. They turned it into resistance, into prayer, into joy, into a declaration that they would remain human, whole, and free in spirit no matter the conditions. From that struggle came blues, jazz, reggae, salsa, gospel, samba, R&B, hip hop: genres that didn’t just heal a people, they reshaped global culture.

“ExitUs” honors that journey. It reminds us that Africa is not just a place of origin; it’s the magnificent foundation. And it reminds the whole world that the beauty, rhythm, and soul we hear everywhere today was forged in fire and carried by unbreakable spirits.

Congratulations on this work. It matters to Africans, to the diaspora, and to anyone who cares about truth, art, and the story of human resilience. You’ve given us a soundtrack to remember where we came from and why it still echoes in everything we create today.
